Coming Home to Myself: Two Rituals for Returning to Ancestral Lands
What if coming home to yourself wasn't about geography... but about soul memory?
Not a place on a map, but a place within. Your ancient, sacred, internal wisdom. A place to call home wherever you may be or go.
I'm about to embark on a profoundly personal pilgrimage, for three and a half months, to two lands that cradle the roots of my soul. The UK, the land of my birth, and Cyprus, where the ancestral roots on my late father's side run deep. Where my story began, and where the echoes of my ancestors still rise and fall with the changing of the seasons.
This isn't just a trip. It's a sacred return. A new rite of passage. Unknown. Unwritten. And yet soothingly familiar. A homecoming not just to landscapes, but to lives. The ones that shaped who I was, and the ones calling me now into who I'm becoming.
I have no idea what is coming. But I deeply feel massive change rumbling into all areas of my life. Where I live. How I serve in the world. Who I am to become.
For the entire year this 2025 I have been listening. Consciously listening. To the call of my soul. Fending off the hidden forces in the collective conscious to 'do more', be more', 'have more', 'make more', 'try more', 'just keep busy'.
No.
I won't.
I shall not.
I choose not...to fall into the pressure of society, of what will people think? of the incessant internal voice of 'you're getting left behind'.
Instead I've been soulfully resting. Tuning in to the whisper faint call of my soul and inner plane team. Walking in nature. Engaging in rich sacred ritual. Gestating...
As I prepare to walk these familiar lands with new eyes, I find myself sitting tenderly with this question:
What does it mean to truly return home to ourselves?
Not the curated self. Not the performing self. But the raw, radiant, truth-soaked version. The self we may have buried under "shoulds," roles, responsibilities, or even spiritual bypassing.
Maybe you feel it too. A quiet, insistent knowing that something must change. Or maybe that knowing is loud now for you. Knocking, roaring, breaking through the illusion of safety you once called comfort.
So I ask you, beloved soul...
What if the change you're resisting is the very doorway to your freedom?
What if the life you're craving isn't out there, but hidden in the act of returning inward?
These times we're living in are not subtle.
They're initiatory.
They're asking us to go beyond surface living and into soul-led being.
To remember. To un-become. To awaken.
To listen.
Not to the noise of the world, the news, the media, influencers, the collective. But to the deep rhythm of our own becoming.
As I commence my journey across oceans and timelines, I carry this prayer, for myself, and for you...
May we each be blessed to find the courage to come home to ourselves and surrender all that we cling to that asphyxiates who we are becoming.
To honour and let go of what's ending. However painful that is.
To soften into what's beginning. To trust the sacred unraveling.
Because home was never a destination. It was always a place of steadfastness and inner knowing.
I'm sharing two sacred rituals I created for this pilgrimage. One honours the ancestral waters of Cyprus, the other the roots of my childhood in the UK. Both are designed to help reconnect with our lineage, heal old patterns, and carry forward the light we've inherited.
Whether you're planning a return to a place from your past, being called to remember a part of yourself you've outgrown or overlooked or call feel the pull of something greater, these rituals are for you.
They're simple, soulful and portable.
They're for you if you feel the call to return to the tender, unguarded parts of yourself, the honest, innocent essence that once moved freely before the world told you who to be. These are the parts we often abandon in the noise of growing up, chasing success, and surviving in a world that's forgotten how to be still. So that you can heal old wounds, and to carry the light forward from the places we once called home.
They are an invitation, for you, to come home to who you authentically are beneath all the roles you play and public personas you adopt.
Because in remembering who we were before the world shaped us, we begin to reclaim who we were always meant to be.
Sacred Rituals For Ancestral Healing
The UK: Roots and Remembrance
Coming back to the UK feels like sitting with an old photograph. There are smiles and shadows. Echoes of a childhood, of dreams long tucked away. This land shaped me. And now, I return not as a girl, but as a woman, grounded, awake, ready to reclaim and integrate it all.
This ritual is for honouring your inner child, blessing the path you've walked, and gathering the strength of your roots.
Ritual for the UK: "Roots and Remembrance"
When: Early morning or twilight
Where: Under a tree, in a garden, by a window
What you'll need: A stone or leaf, pen and paper, a moment of stillness
Step 1: Set Your Space
Wrap yourself in something soft, place your hand on your heart. Say:
"I am safe. I am home in myself. I am open to remembering with love."
Step 2: Connect to the Earth
Hold your stone or leaf. Feel your feet on the ground. Say:
"I stand on the land that shaped me. I bless the child I was, the woman I am, and all I've yet to become."
Step 3: Invoke Healing
Take a few deep breaths. Say:
"I invite peace into the past, clarity into the present, and trust into my future. I forgive what needs forgiving. I release what no longer serves."
Step 4: Speak to Your Inner Child
Ask:
What do you need to hear right now, love?
What are you proud of yourself for surviving?
What joy still lives inside you waiting to be brought to life?
Step 5: Anchor and Close
Place the stone or leaf on a windowsill or return it to the land. Say:
"I return, not to stay in the past, but to bless it, reclaim it, and grow from it. I carry the wisdom and the love forward."
Cyprus: Awakening the Ancestral Waters
There's something about Cyprus that feels ancient, maternal, almost mythic. The sea there holds memory. The land sings with lineage.
When I touch that soil, I feel my yia yai's (grandmother's) prayers. I hear whispers in the waves.
This ritual is a quiet act of reverence to the ancestral women who came before me and a way to awaken their gifts through me.
Ritual for Cyprus: "Awakening the Ancestral Waters"
When: Sunset or sunrise
Where: By the sea, a spring, or under a tree
What you'll need: A bowl or shell, a candle or flame, pen and paper, an optional offering (flower, stone, oil)
Step 1: Create Sacred Space
Light a candle or simply place your hand over your heart. Say aloud:
"I stand on the land of my ancestors. I honour the stories, the wounds, the wisdom that flow through my blood. I now awaken the gifts ready to rise through me."
Step 2: Connect to the Land
Touch the earth or water. Feel its pulse. Whisper:
"As I touch this land, I remember. As I listen, I receive."
Step 3: Light Your Inner Flame
Breathe deeply. Say:
"May the flame within me shine with truth, with clarity, with grace. I am a keeper of the light."
Step 4: Write or Speak from the Soul
A blessing you're receiving from your ancestors
A pattern you're releasing
A gift you're ready to embody
Step 5: Offer and Close
Return your bowl of water or your offering to the land. Say:
"I walk forward with love. I carry my lineage with light. And so it is."
This Journey Isn't Just Mine
Whether you're returning to a place from your past, or from the comfort of your own home simply revisiting a part of yourself that you've tucked away, may these rituals offer you a soft and sacred space to land.
If these words stirred something in you, I'd love to hear from you. What are you remembering? What are you reclaiming?
You don't need to cross oceans to come home to yourself. Sometimes, all it takes is a breath, a blessing, and a willingness to listen.
With love from the road,
