Coming Home to Myself: Two Rituals for Returning to Ancestral Lands
reconnect, to heal the old wounds, and to carry the light forward from the places we once called home.
Cyprus: Awakening the Ancestral Waters
There's something about Cyprus that feels ancient, maternal, almost mythic. The sea there holds memory. The land sings with lineage.
When I touch that soil, I feel my grandmother's prayers. I hear whispers in the waves.
This ritual is a quiet act of reverence to the ancestral women who came before me—and a way to awaken their gifts through me.
Ritual for Cyprus: "Awakening the Ancestral Waters"
- When: Sunset or sunrise
-Where: By the sea, a spring, or under a tree
- What you'll need: A bowl or shell, a candle or flame, pen and paper, an optional offering (flower, stone, oil)
Step 1: Create Sacred Space
Light a candle or simply place your hand over your heart. Say aloud:
"I stand on the land of my ancestors. I honor the stories, the wounds, the wisdom that flow through my blood. I now awaken the gifts ready to rise through me."
Step 2: Connect to the Land
Touch the earth or water. Feel its pulse. Whisper:
"As I touch this land, I remember. As I listen, I receive."
Step 3: Light Your Inner Flame
Breathe deeply. Say:
"May the flame within me shine with truth, with clarity, with grace. I am a keeper of the light."
Step 4: Write or Speak from the Soul
- A blessing you're receiving from your ancestors
- A pattern you're releasing
- A gift you're ready to embody
Step 5: Offer and Close
Return your bowl of water or your offering to the land. Say:
"I walk forward with love. I carry my lineage with light. And so it is."
The UK: Roots and Remembrance
Coming back to the UK feels like sitting with an old photograph. There are smiles and shadows. Echoes of a childhood, of dreams long tucked away. This land shaped me. And now, I return not as a girl, but as a woman—rooted, awake, ready to reclaim and integrate it all.
This ritual is for honoring your inner child, blessing the path you've walked, and gathering the strength of your roots.
Ritual for the UK: "Roots and Remembrance"
- When: Early morning or twilight
- Where: Under a tree, in a garden, by a window
- What you'll need: A stone or leaf, pen and paper, a moment of stillness
Step 1: Set Your Space
Wrap yourself in something soft or place your hand on your heart. Say:
"I am safe. I am home in myself. I am open to remembering with love."
Step 2: Connect to the Earth
Hold your stone or leaf. Feel your feet on the ground. Say:
"I stand on the land that shaped me. I bless the child I was, the woman I am, and all I've yet to become."
Step 3: Invoke Healing
Take a few deep breaths. Say:
"I invite peace into the past, clarity into the present, and trust into my future. I forgive what needs forgiving. I release what no longer serves."
Step 4: Speak to Your Inner Child
Ask:
- What do you need to hear right now, love?
- What are you proud of yourself for surviving?
- What joy still lives inside you waiting to rise again?
Step 5: Anchor and Close
Place the stone on a windowsill or return it to the land. Say:
"I return, not to stay in the past—but to bless it, reclaim it, and rise from it. I carry the wisdom and the love forward."
This Journey Isn't Just Mine
Whether you're returning to a place from your past, or simply revisiting a part of yourself that you've tucked away, may these rituals offer you a soft and sacred space to land.
If these words stirred something in you, I'd love to hear from you. What are you remembering? What are you reclaiming?
You don't need to cross oceans to come home to yourself. Sometimes, all it takes is a breath, a blessing, and a willingness to listen.
With love from the road,
Anjani
